I first picked up a camera when I was 16, and what started as curiosity quickly turned into something I truly loved. Over the years, that passion has grown into documenting weddings, families, and meaningful moments for people across Michigan and beyond.
My approach is documentary at heart. I focus on real moments, genuine emotion, and the little in-between interactions that often end up meaning the most. I’ll guide you when it’s helpful, step back when moments are unfolding naturally, and make sure the entire experience feels comfortable and easy.

I'm A mom of two
While most couples interact directly with me, there’s one other important person often behind the camera.
Jose and I are the husband-and-wife team behind
NissaJ Photography + Film.
On wedding days, we work side by side to make sure every part of your story is captured thoughtfully. I focus on photography, documenting the moments, emotions, and details as the day unfolds. Jose often joins me as a second photographer or videographer, helping capture additional perspectives so nothing important gets missed.
When couples book both photography and videography, Jose steps into the role of filmmaker. While I document the day through photos, he focuses on capturing the motion, audio, and atmosphere that bring your story to life on film.
Working together allows us to stay in sync throughout the day and document your wedding from multiple angles while keeping the experience relaxed and seamless for you.
Being able to work together and document such meaningful moments for couples is something we’re both incredibly grateful for.

What It's like to work together
Working with me is meant to feel relaxed and natural. Most couples tell me they start the day feeling a little unsure about being in front of a camera, but within minutes they forget it’s even there.
I’ll guide you when it’s helpful, especially during portraits, but I’m also very intentional about stepping back and letting real moments unfold naturally. My goal isn’t to stage your day, it’s to document it honestly while making sure you feel comfortable the entire time.
My Philosophy
I believe the best photos happen when people feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
That’s why I focus on creating a calm and supportive environment where you don’t feel like you’re performing for the camera. Some moments need gentle guidance, while others deserve space to happen naturally.
One of the things I remind couples often is simple:
It’s your day, not mine.
My job isn’t to control the experience, it’s to help you stay present while I document the moments that matter most.
Why this work matters to me
Being trusted to document someone's wedding day or meaningful life moments is something I never take lightly.
Photos and films often become part of a family's history, something people return to years later to remember how a moment felt.
Knowing that the work I create will live on in people's homes and memories is what continues to inspire me every time I pick up a camera.
I believe everyone deserves to feel comfortable, safe, and celebrated in front of the camera.
